About Me

Creative, passionate and resourceful

I am a passionate individual and have over 14 years of IT support experience; working with desktop, servers and network infrastructure. Through hard work and dedication, I have fulfilled the role of Senior Systems Engineer, and I’m now ready for a new challenge.

As a hobby, I have set up and worked on a number of internet based Radio Stations, both producing media and maintaining the stations automated playout and streaming systems. I have always had a passion for audio and studied sound engineering at College. I kept this passion alive by working on a number of live music events, from Wedding function bands, to live music concerts.

I have also dedicated alot of my time to volunteering within Scouting. My volunteering role allows me to use my skills in a way that benefits others. I have helped introduce numerous technologies to my local Scout Group and District. I have recently been appointed as Assistant District Commissioner for Digital. This is a role in which I assist others in better using technology to improve Scouting.

Scouting is where I best get to indulge my hobby. I am responsible for the sound during the annual Gangshow, with a live band and a cast of over 40 young people. Scouting is also where I have developed one of my most recent interests; video recording and broadcasting. I have recently been put in charge of delivering a number of live streamed events.

Skills

Network / Infrastructure

I have designed, implemented and supported small and large Cisco and HPE based networks. I have set up a number of Hyper-V clusters using both SAN and DAS Storage solutions.

I have led the replacement of networks at a number of remote sites accross the UK. This includes planning, configuring and installing all aspects of the network. I have the ability to terminate fibre optic network cables to a high standard.

Audio Engineering

Audio engineering, both for recording and live sound have been a personal passion for many years. I studied the City & Guilds 7603 Sound Engineering and Music Technology, in which I achived a Merit.

Since then I have worked on a number of live sound events for music and stage performances. I have also tied this skill into live broadcast of internet radio and video broadcast.

Desktop Support

My IT career began in a service desk role, so I have had the opportunity to build up an extensive knowledge of desktop operating systems. I am capable of supporing Windows, Mac & Linux.

I spent a number of years working in the financial & Charity industry so have had exposure to many different software solutions. My desktop support experience also includes video conferencing systems, presentation systems and AV distribution.

Photography

I took an interest in photography a few years ago. I purchased a Canon 400D camera with the standard 18-55mm lense. After using this setup for a number of months, I ventured out and purchased a few different lenses, a 50mm and a 75-300mm lense.

I really enjoyed using the 50mm lense to shoot with a shallow depth of field, giving the subjects a blury background. I also began to play with long exposure photography. Capturing light trails from car headlights and other sources was very interesting.

Video & Live Broadcast

A good friend of mine introduced me to professional video equipment, specifically Black Magic Design ATEM's. I have since taken an interest into broadcast and HD Video. My ADC - Digital role within Scouting has given me grounds to work on this.

I am now involved in video recording behind the scenes footage for the Waltham Forest Gangshow, as well as preparing and operating a number of live video streams for District meetings. I have also recorded and produced a number of videos for my local Scout group.

Web design & hosting

After teaching myself how to write in HTML, PHP & Javascript, I began to create websites. I now operate a number of sites for friends, family and colleauges. I have also utilized these skills to build a custom asset management and tracking tool that is still in use at The Scout Association.

I have also dedicated a lot of time into maintaining my local Scout Groups website, ensuring that it is up to date and that the content is new and relevant.
